A team of Agronomy students from the UNILU pursues the implementation of a research station on the miombo.
date : 15/01/2010

Within the framework of the project undertaken under the supervision of Professors Ngongo from the Unilu, and Meerts and Lejoly from the ULB, a students team from the agronomy faculty of the University of Lubumbashi pursues the marking of all the trees of a diameter above 10cm on a 6 hectare area in the Mikembo Sanctuary. This device will allow to assess the dynamics of forests when exploited for firewood. Various scenarios will be studied (low impact or moderate impact) to estimate quantities of firewood that can be taken annually without putting the forest in danger. These researchers hope that they will eventually be able to propose a model of sustainable exploitation of the miombo.
