Visit of the Professor Lejoly
date : 20/02/2009

During the whole week BAK welcomed the Professor Jean Lejoly from the Free University of Brussels. This botanist came to set up, with students from the UNILU, an experimental site to study the open forest of Katanga also called "Miombo".
Areas totalising 4 hectares were chosen in the Mikembo Sanctuary. In these experimental plots, all the trees measuring over 10 cm in diameter were marked, measured, mapped, and their evolution and growth will be followed for 5 years. Eventually, this data base which will be completed with additional plots totalising 16 hectares, will allow a better understanding of the miombo evolution according to its exploitation.
