Description :   This species differs from the Pearl-spotted Owlet by its larger size and by having barred rather than spotted upperparts. 
     
Habitat :   Especially likes gallery forests in the savannahs. Cohabits with the Pearl-spotted Owlet in the Marungu.  
     
Behaviour :   Sometimes active before sunset.  
     
Diet :   Almost exclusively insectivorous, feeding on larger insects than the Pearl-spotted Owlet does.  
     
Life history :   Nidification takes place at the end of the dry season.
